This past week I got a chance to visit Miramichi, Doaktown and Blackville in New Brunswick Canada. What beautiful country! Although I did not get to fish this time it was very interesting learning about the history of the river and talking with the locals.
I met a woman by the name of Cathy Colford-Mehlitz at Curtis Miramichi River Outfitting. She was very knowledgable and showed me some of the popular flies. She ties over 5000 flies a year! Here are a few photos of her flies and her award winning Run-r-up. Thanks Cathy!
I also dropped into the Atlantic Salmon Museum in Doaktown. The museum is amazing. They have a great collection of art, artifacts, and flies from all of the greats. In the aquarium portion they have live salmon in the various stages of life. One can even adopt and name a parr to be released into the Miramichi. Squishy, Nemo, and Aurora have been adopted and await release. May they have great quantities of offspring.. Thanks to Samantha for all of her time spent with us showing us around.
Because of time I regret not being able to stop at W.W. Doaks. Next time….
